Newick Village Society's 2nd Gardens Open Day was held on Sunday 2nd July 2006. Twelve private gardens in the village were open to the public, plus one at the village primary school that had been tended by the children. Entrance was by programme, which was available for sale at the Gardens Open Day H.Q. located on the Green (see picture above). All proceeds will be shared amongst four charities: Newick Day Care Centre, St Peter & St James' Hospice, Headway House and Leyden House.
After nearly a year in the planning, all of those involved in the organisation had been praying for fine weather. In fact the day turned out to be one of the hottest of the year, with temperatures of up to 32°C. The gazebos and umbrellas which had been erected in case of inclement weather were required as sunshades instead.
